ND HS Baseball/Softball Power Rankings

Jody is still in the process of getting an official MidcoSN Blog, so I'm posting this on his behalf. Please direct any comments to jody.norstedt@midco.com

In Class A baseball, things are holding pretty steady at the top. Dickinson is off to a 7-1 start, including a big sweep over Century last week. West Fargo stays put at number two with a 5-1 record against EDC teams. Positions 3 thru 5 get tricky for me, but these teams will sort things out themselves over the next few weeks. Fargo North is on the bubble after sweeping Davies to open the year and knocking the Eagles out of the top five.

  1. Dickinson
  2. West Fargo
  3. Bismarck Century
  4. WF Sheyenne
  5. Minot

In Class B, Thompson leads the way after scoring a combined 30 runs in their season-opening doubleheader. Next week, the Tommies will be tested against Hillsboro-Central Valley (Apr. 20th) and Grafton (Apr. 21st). Kindred-Richland takes the 2-spot away from Carrington after beating the Cardinals 9-1 last Friday. Grafton and Shiloh Christian enter the top five this week.

  1. Thompson
  2. Kindred-Richland
  3. Park River-Fordville-Lankin
  4. Grafton
  5. Shiloh Christian

In Class A softball, West Fargo is off to an 8-0 start. But, boy it was interesting in game two against Sheyenne on Tuesday night. When the Mustangs led 13-2 after 3 innings, I was wondering when the last time, if ever, the Packers lost by more than 10 runs. How foolish of me? As West Fargo senior catcher Sami Dullum pointed out to me in a postgame interview, “We can hit. We just can’t give up on it.” The Packers didn’t give up. They hit 6 home runs in the game and broke a 14-14 tie in the 7th by scoring 7 runs to win 21-14. So, the Packers remain number one. Dickinson won a pair of one run games against Bismarck to keep hold of the two spot. Minot jumps from 5 to 3 thanks to a 5-1 start. Sheyenne cracks the top five after not even getting mentioned last week. After watching the Mustangs in person, they have my FULL attention now. Packers head coach Pat Johnson paid them a nice compliment after the doubleheader saying, “they’re one of the best teams in the state.”

  1. West Fargo
  2. Dickinson
  3. Minot
  4. Bismarck Century
  5. WF Sheyenne

Defending state champ Kindred-Richland earns the top spot in my first Class B softball power rankings. The Vikings are off to a 2-0 start, highlighted by their 3-0 win over #3 Central Cass on Tuesday. Hillsboro-Central Valley is at number two with some big games coming up against Northern Cass and #1 Kindred-Richland. Des Lacs-Burlington and Grafton round out the top five.

  1. Kindred-Richland
  2. Hillsboro-Central Valley
  3. Central Cass
  4. Des Lacs-Burlington
  5. Grafton

Do you agree with me/disagree with me (more likely)?  Let me know what you think the top five should be in the class(es) you follow the most! I’m looking forward to providing expanded coverage this spring for the high school baseball/softball players in North Dakota.
