North Dakota State University men's basketball added a second Junior College Guard to the 2017 class in Nnamdi Van Dulm, a 6’4” guard who played this past season at Lake Land College in Illinois. Van Dulm has an interesting story. He was originally born in Milwaukee, raised in Georgia, and then moved back to Wisconsin to play his final year of basketball at West Allis Central in the Milwaukee area. He played in 31 games this past season and averaged 10 points, three rebounds and two and half assists per game for the Lakers.

From Van Dulm’s highlights, you can see he is very comfortable handling the basketball and attacking the rim. He played mostly at the point this past season, shot 44% from the field and 74% from the free throw line. The addition of another guard gives the Bison backcourt a boost after Khy Kabellis unexpectedly decided to transfer a few weeks ago.

Van Dulm played last year at Lake Land for Brandon Colvin, who has North Dakota ties. Colvin spent time as an assistant coach at the North Dakota State College of Science and two years as the head coach and athletic director at Dakota College at Bottineau.

“I really like the competitive nature of the team and the expectation to win,” Van Dulm told me in a message. “I'll be challenged on a consistent basis and couldn't pass up the opportunity to play for Coach Richman.”

NDSU also received a commitment recently from Jake Mertens, a three-year all-state performer from Devils Lake, who will be a preferred walk-on. The Bison will have six new faces joining the team this summer. Integrating the old with the new will be a fun challenge for the coaching staff that still has plenty of experience to lean on heading into next season.
