MidcoSN Podcast: UND Hockey First-Half Recap

After three months of action, the first half of the 2017-18 college hockey season is now in the books.

For North Dakota, the holiday break comes at the perfect time.

Thanks to an exempt series in Anchorage to open the season, Brad Berry's team hasn't had a free weekend since September, and the weekly grind has taken its toll on the third-year head coach's roster. To date, only six UND players have featured in all 20 games this campaign, with the team losing a staggering 45 man-games to injury. (FYI: "Man-games" has been my favorite Jayson Hajdu phrase of this year's first half.)

Despite a constantly rotating line chart and faced with the eighth-hardest schedule in the country, North Dakota still notched five wins over teams ranked in the top ten on their way to a 10-5-5 first-half record. UND sits 6th in the latest USCHO.com Poll and are currently 7th in the Pairwise and 2nd in the NCHC standings, all promising signs for a young team whose best is likely still yet to come.

For a complete look at North Dakota's season to date and a preview of what's to come in 2018, check out the latest MidcoSN Podcast below, featuring an extended conversation with Brad Schlossman of the Grand Forks Herald and a recent interview with Brad Berry. As always, lots of great stuff from Brad and Brad on the highlights of the first half and what to expect when UND takes the ice again in January.

We'll have live UND hockey back on the airwaves on December 30th for North Dakota's exhibition game against the US-NTDP. Until then, thanks for listening, thanks for watching, and happy holidays from all of us at Midco Sports Network!
