Since winning Olympic gold in South Korea in February of 2018, life has been a blur for Monique and Jocelyn Lamoureux.

After playing a major role in lifting USA Women’s Hockey to the top of the Olympic podium for the first time in 20 years, the twin sisters from Grand Forks have toured the country, turned into national advocates for social change and – most impactfully – become first-time mothers to a pair of baby boys.

Along the way, the twins began collaborating on how to further give back to the community and state they call home. This week – just days before they’ll resume training with Team USA in advance of November’s Four Nations Cup in Sweden – they announced the formation of the Monique and Jocelyn Lamoureux Foundation, a charitable trust designed to provide support for underprivileged children in North Dakota and beyond.

Shortly after the foundation was announced, I caught up with Monique – who not long ago moonlighted as my color analyst on MidcoSN hockey broadcasts – to get the story behind the twins’ “Cheer For The One Behind” initiative and to find out how she’s balancing motherhood, social advocacy and life as an elite hockey player.
